The Trimble Tomcats are quite possibly the only high school football team in Ohio sitting at 1-2. What may be one of the more unique records in the state didn't come around by choice — the Tomcats were forced to scout Miller and Waterford, their next two opponents, last Friday night instead of making the trip south to Coal Grove due to a meningitis outbreak.

Coach Phil Faires explained today that he knew few more details about Dawson-Bryant's health issue but was quick to praise Trimble superintendent Dr. Kimberly Jones on her stance to cancel the trip, erring on the side of a better-safe-than-sorry attitude.

The night off could come as a blessing in disguise to the banged up Tomcat squad. Trimble has been nursing several key players back to health, including running back Austin Keith and guard J.D. Chesser, both seniors.

On top of the health issues, Faires has been challenging his players to take the next step each week, knowing that the Tomcats likely have to win each game for the remainder of the season to qualify for playoffs.

"Everyine just has to get a little bit better," he claimed, citing that each position needs to develop better tendencies.

The Tomcats will have plenty of motivation and legs going into Friday's matchup with Miller High School (0-4), in what Faires calls "a big rivalry game for both of us."

Trimble is 1-1 at home this season and will look to notch their record at 2-2 heading into week five.
