Former Ohio head coach John Groce continues to pick up awards after his former team's storied run to the postseason.

He was named The Columbus Dispatch's men's Ohio college basketball coach of the year. His 13 first-place votes and 55 votes overall were enough to win the award.

Thad Matta of Ohio State finished in second place with 51 votes. Groce coach under Matta for four seasons. He also beat out Arkon head coach Keith Dambrot and Cincinnati's Mick Cronin.

The Dispatch reported that Groce was acceptecd to West Point and his throwback style of discipline is what made him successful in leading his teams to postseason play.
