Just a day after being named to the First Team All-MAC, Ohio catcher Lauren Gellerman received another honor, as she received the Mid-American Conference Scholar Athlete of the Week award on Wednesday afternoon.

In six games last week, the catcher was a driving force in Ohio’s line-up. Gellerman went 9-for-16 from the plate, with three home runs and a double. She also drove in six runs and scored four herself, to help lead her team to a 5-1 record to finish the regular season.

Gellerman, a junior, is Ohio’s third student-athlete to receive the honors during the 2011-2012 school year, as distance runner Emily Pifer and women’s golfer Megan Weaver were also recipients.

To be named the MAC Scholar Athlete of the Week, a student-athlete must have a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or better and perform well for their team during the week's competition.

With MAC Tournament play kicking off on Wednesday for the Bobcats at 5 p.m. against Western Michigan, Gellerman will look to stay hot from the plate and help her team advance toward a conference title.
