Ohio heavyweight wrestler Jeremy Johnson was named to the National Wrestling Coaches Association Individual All-Academic team for the 2011-2012 season on Tuesday afternoon.

Johnson was one of 87 wrestlers around the country to receive the honors, with only 23 other All-Americans and 16 sophomores made the team. He placed seventh in the NCAA Wrestling Championships in March, led the Bobcat wrestling team last season with a record of 35-7.

The heavyweight sophomore was also one of two Mid-American Conference Champions for the Bobcats, as he did not lose to a MAC opponent all season.

To be eligible for the All-Academic team, a wrestler must have a 3.2 cumulative GPA and be an NCAA qualifier or win 60 percent of his total schedule. Wrestlers can also qualify with a 3.0 GPA and All-American honors.

Johnson will return to the team again next season as a junior in the heavyweight class.
