After winning two home meets and winning five out of six individual events this past weekend, Anastasia Bocharnikova is able to add another accomplishment to her season, as she won the Mid-American conference swimmer of the week award.

The award credits Ohio’s strong performances in the last weeks, as it was given to a Bobcat swimmer for the second week in a row, after sophomore Tori Bagan earned it last week.

Bocharnikova, a backstroke and breaststroke specialist out of Nizhny Tagil, Russia, has been consistent all year long as she won nine of sixteen events at dual meets and has helped the Bobcats to three wins in the Medley Relay.

Last year Bocharnikova finished ninth in the 200-yard backstroke at the MAC championships in a time of 1:59.93 – the fourth fastest time any swimmer at Ohio has ever swam.

Although Bocharnikova is considered a junior, it is her last year of eligibility as she was only granted three years by the NCAA when entering College. Back in Russia she had already started college and swam for a club team.

After she will earn her final credits during summer school and graduate, Bocharnikova intends to go back to Russia.
