The chance to professional hockey for American Collegiate Hockey Association players is generally bleak, but one Ohio player has bucked that trend.

Senior forward and captain Tyler Pilmore signed a contract with the Wheeling Nailers of the East Coast Hockey League this weekend, becoming the only member of Ohio’s senior class to sign a professional contract.

Pilmore is the program’s all time leading scorer with 227 points. He broke the mark of the previous record holder, current coach Dan Morris, with an assist in the first round of the Central States Collegiate Hockey League tournament in a 7-0 win against Indiana.

He made his professional debut Saturday against the Toledo Walleye
