Former Ohio guard Eric Herman was drafted by the New York Giants with the No. 19 pick in the seventh round of the 2013 NFL Draft, becoming the 31st Bobcat to be drafted in program history.

The Giants selected Herman with the 225th pick overall Saturday, as he became the fifth Ohio player to be drafted in the Frank Solich era.

“I'm excited for Eric (Herman) and his family,” Solich said. “He's had a great career at Ohio University and he's been a joy to coach. We're looking forward to following his professional career.”

Herman was one of seven Mid-American Conference players to be drafted, but was the lone Bobcat selected.

As a redshirt senior in 2012, he received All-MAC Second Team honors, after starting each of Ohio’s 13 games and leading the team with 128 pancakes and 131 knockdowns.

He made 51 consecutive starts to finish his career at Ohio and was the fifth Bobcat drafted in the past six NFL Drafts.

While Herman was the only former Bobcat drafted this year, a pair of former Ohio players were signed as undrafted free agents. The Detroit Lions signed former offensive lineman Skylar Allen, while defensive lineman Neal Huynh was signed by the Atlanta Falcons.

Allen also appeared in every game for the Bobcats in 2012, recording 77 pancakes and 77 knockdowns.

On the other side of the ball, Huynh started 12 of Ohio's 13 games on the season, making 29 tackles (10 solo), including eight tackles for loss and a pair of sacks.

Currently, three former Bobcats are active players on an NFL roster. Wide receiver LaVon Brazil is signed to the Indianapolis Colts, while safety Mike Mitchell is a member of the Carolina Panthers and punter Dave Zastudil is a member of the Arizona Cardinals.
