Over the weekend, former Ohio football head coach Tom Lichtenberg died at the age of 72 after a bout with cancer.

During his four year tenure at the helm of program from 1990-1994, Lichtenberg’s teams went 8-45-2, including a winless 0-11 final season with the Bobcats.

Before arriving at Ohio, Lichtenberg played at Louisville from 1959-1961 and his assistant coaching stints included time at Iowa State, Notre Dame, Northern Iowa, Bowling Green and Drake.

He was the head coach at Morehead State from 1979-1980 and led Maine to a 9-3 record and Yankee Conference Championship in 1989 in his one year at the helm with the Black Bears.

"Tom touched the lives of so many former student-athletes both on and off the field during his time at Ohio University," Ohio Athletics Director Jim Schaus said in a press release. "Our thoughts and prayers go out to Tom's family and friends during this difficult time."
