Former Ohio University student Christopher D. Tarrant, 20, of Hamilton, is scheduled to plead guilty to a felonious assault charge, stemming from an incident that occurred on June 1, 2012.

Tarrant has been charged with a second-degree felony in Athens County Common Pleas Court. The charges are punishable by up to eight years in prison. He had been scheduled to begin trial next Thursday, but court documents indicate that Tarrant will instead plead guilty.

The alleged assault occurred near Buffalo Wild Wings on Congress Street in Athens at 12:45 a.m. last June. The victim of the attack, Evan M. Clark, 23, of Germantown, sustained a detached retina and was treated at O’Bleness Memorial Hospital, before being relocated to Grant Medical Center in Columbus to receive further treatment.

The prosecution claims alcohol was a factor in the incident and the assault occurred without provocation.

Tarrant practiced with the Ohio football team last spring as a walk-on running back, but was never listed on the team’s roster. He has since been removed from the team and expelled from OU.
