The Ohio women’s soccer team has struggled all season long with keep up good consistent play. They have played well in spurts, but never for a full game.
Friday at Akron that tune was the same as their one shot on goal in the first went in the back of the net, but then Ohio let in two goals to be down to 2-1 at halftime.
Ali Cislo scored the final goal of the game in the 70th minute off an assist from Carly Manso tying the game at 2-2.
The Bobcats faced 24 shots from the Zips in total including nine on net. Mattie Liston was big in net as she recorded seven saves. Ohio managed to only get nine shots off, and only five were on frame. Redshirt sophomore Holly Harris led the team in shots with four, all on goal.
Junior Lonnie Smith and senior Kelly DeNiro proved to be a lethal combination for Akron both with one goal and one assist. Those were the only two goals of the game.
The Bobcats struck first as sophomore Holly Harris scored an unassisted goal on a shot from the far right wing to give Ohio a 1-0 lead in the 16th minute.
The Zips answered nearly 10 minutes later as Lonnie Smith beat Liston off an assist from Kelly DeNiro to tie the game at 1-1 in the 24th minute.
Not even five minutes later in the game DeNiro scored one for herself on a shot from the top of the box. Lonnie smith assisted to give Akron a 2-1 lead going into half.
Ohio’s record now sits at 5-4-4 (1-2-2 Mid-American Conference) on the season where Akron’s record now sits at 4-6-3 (1-3-1 MAC) at recording its first tie of the conference season.
The Bobcats return to action Sunday at 1 p.m., as they travel to Buffalo, to take on the Bulls.
