Putting the team on her shoulders is sophomore forward Holly Harris’ specialty.
She came through in the clutch again Friday for Ohio (7-5-5, 3-3-3 Mid-American Conference) scoring the go ahead goal to with only 1:22 remaining on the clock to beat Toledo 2-1. Junior defenseman Tanya Frasik assisted on the play giving her five on the season.
This is the second time this season Harris has scored in the final two minutes for the Bobcats. She also scored the game winner against Niagara, which was also assisted by Frasik.
Senior goalkeeper Mattie Liston had to come up big again for Ohio, as she tallied 13 saves, putting her in fifth place in the MAC history with 391 career saves. She passed Monique Budani, who recorded 387 saves in her career at Eastern Michigan.
Had it not have been for an own goal in the 65th minute she would have also recorded her 21st career shutout of her illustrious career. Friday was the Rockets (5-10-1, 2-5-1 MAC) only score of the game.
Ohio scored their first goal of the game in the 67th minute off the foot of junior forward Liz Finley as she received a pass from Alexis Milesky before slotting it home for her fourth goal of the season.
The Bobcats were severely outplayed all game as they were outshot 27-9 by the Rockets and were only able to get five shots on goal. Fortunately, Ohio made the most of their chances scoring on two of the five shots on goal.
Finishing is something coach Aaron Rodgers really wanted to see improvement in after the 0-0 tie against Western Michigan.
This was a key win for the Bobcats as both Toledo and Northern Illinois were nipping at Ohio’s heels for a place in the MAC Tournament. With a win on Sunday at Northern Illinois the Bobcats will virtually have a solidified tournament spot.
