Something that has ruined millions of careers in the sports world and can easily ruin your fantasy team on a dime.

If you guessed “injures,” you are correct.

Injuries are a typical part of sports. Every athlete, from pee-wee baseball to professional swimmers will usually sustain an injury during their career.

Even some of the greatest athletes of all time have had injury setbacks that have crushed their chances of reaching career defining heights.

Running back Bo Jackson was arguably the baddest human being on Earth when he ran over Seahawk’s linebacker Brian Bosworth on Monday Night Football in 1987, but a serious hip injury would cut his football career short a few years later.

From 1988 to 1993 tennis player Monica Seles was one of the best women’s tennis players. It wasn’t until a crazed fan during the quarterfinals match in Hamburg, Germany stabbed her. Seles healed from her injury, but was never the same player afterward.

The point is that injuries can easily ruin careers and the same goes for any owner’s fantasy team.

Anyone who had Julio Jones in fantasy football or Sidney Crosby during fantasy hockey knows the impact of injures on a roster.

The adversity that comes with adjusting to injuries can just be as taxing.

Finding a replacement for someone like Kobe Byrant or Derrick Rose is almost impossible for owners, as they rely on them to be a cornerstone of their team.

Since losing Bryant, my fantasy team dropped the final two games, to place me at 6-4. It’s not a bad record, but I wasted my third pick choosing Bryant and now that he’s out for the next few months, I basically wasted my 31st pick this season.

It’s normally not the athlete’s fault when they get hurt, but the repercussions it gives fantasy owners can be a bigger difference than most realize.

Dud of the Week: Jameer Nelson, Guard for Orlando Magic: Nelson played a lot like how Orlando’s season is going: Awful. Zero points last night in a 1-9 shooting performance versus the Clippers.

Stud of the Week: Greg Monroe, Center for Detroit Pistons: Basically Durant could have this locked in every week, but I want to award someone else. Monroe, who is averaging 14.7 points, 8.8 rebounds and a steal this season, has been a fantasy gem this past week. He has 30+ fantasy points in the past four games.
