I’m wandering into forbidden territory.
I’ll be the first to admit I’m not a huge baseball fan and that my first season playing fantasy baseball will be one of challenges and tribulations.
So without further ado, here’s my top picks for fantasy baseball (please don’t laugh at me):
Top-Tier Players:
1. Mike Trout, outfielder for Los Angeles Angels
2. Miguel Cabrera, third baseman for Detroit Tigers
3. Andrew McCutchen, outfielder for Pittsburgh Pirates
4. Paul Goldschmidt, first baseman for Arizona Diamondbacks
5. Carlos Gonzalez, outfielder for Colorado Rockies
Pick your poison here, all five of these players are safe picks in the first round. Even though Gonzalez’s finger injury maybe a concern for some, these five guys are the best of the best. Choosing between Trout and Cabrera is like picking between apples and oranges.
Still Solid Choices:
6. Robinson Cano, second baseman for Seattle Mariners
7. Jacoby Ellsbury, outfielder for New York Yankees
8. Chris Davis, first baseman for Baltimore Orioles
9. Edwin Encarnacion, first baseman for Toronto Blue Jays
10. Adam Jones, outfielder for Baltimore Orioles
11. Clayton Kershaw, starting pitcher for Los Angeles Dodgers
12. Prince Fielder, first baseman for Texas Rangers
Cano and Fielder’s change of scenery should bring prosperity to fantasy owners. Despite his solid on-base percentage and batting average, Ellsbury has missed 273 games in the past five seasons, which could raise some red flags for owners. Speaking of missing games, Encarnacion may also miss some games this season after undergoing surgery for his left wrist this offseason. They’re all still solid picks, but cautious when picking some of these guys.
