After two successful team and individual finishes during the past two weekends, Ohio women’s golf will head to Bowling Green to take place in the Dorles Black Falcon Invitational.

In their past two tournaments, the Bobcats have had at least one golfer in the top 20 individually and last week finished fifth overall. Those are two very strong finishes that will help the team maintain momentum heading toward the Mid-American Conference Championship.

This weekend’s tournament will have teams from as far as South Dakota competing for two days on a course that’s a par-72. Ohio will take on in state rivals such as Akron, Cleveland State and host Bowling Green, which is also featuring two teams in play this weekend. Ohio finished just ahead of Bowling Green last weekend.

The Bobcats will have to utilize all aspects of their game this weekend. The Stone Ridge Golf Club, where the tournament is being held, has only four par-3 holes. The majority of the holes on this course are par four. The course also has large sandtraps in certain areas which could be cause problems for the team if they have problems controlling where their shot goes.

Weather should also not be a big factor for the Bobcats like it was last weekend. The only chance of rain comes on Sunday but nothing that looks to prove to be a problem for the team. Rain was a big factor last week as the team struggled with their first day of playing with all members of the team shooting over 80 strokes, except for freshman Hailey Hyrnewhich, who shot a 79.

Two members of the team will also be fresh off a top-20 performance. Senior Kara Brinkmann and Hyrnewhich tied with a combined score of 159, which was 15 strokes over par. Hyrnewhich was also named MAC player of the week after her performance in the Ocala Spring Collegiate Invitational.

With good weather and momentum, Ohio should be able to have a strong finish against a wide variety of competition. With the large amount of teams in play it should be a good test and preparation for the MAC championships at the end of this month.
