This summer has been eventful for D.J. Cooper.

The former Ohio men’s basketball guard earned Bosnian citizenship and agreed to a contract with

Russian basketball club Enisey Krasnoyarsk

,

but a foot injury has halted any basketball activities for at least three weeks, though no surgery will be required.

Cooper suffered the injury during practices with the Bosnian national team, which he was set to compete with in the upcoming FIBA Eurobasket qualifying tournament. Despite the injury, he will remain a member of the team and “looks forward to competing in the 2015 European Championships,” per his agent Mike Naiditch.

Earlier in July there was speculation Cooper had left the team because of disapproval with coach Dusko Ivanovic’s coaching methods. Naiditch disputed the rumors by

tweeting

that Cooper “departed to Chicago to attend to a personal family matter.” He rejoined the Bosnian club on July 14, but has since returned to his hometown Chicago to rest.

This past season he set a new assists record for PAOK BC, which he led to a third place finish in the Greek Basketball League after averaging more than 10 points, six assists and almost two steals per game.
