Bobcats remain winless after 4-2 loss

Ohio scored more goals on Kentucky than any other team this season, but it

wasn't enough.

The Bobcats remain winless after a 4-2 loss to the Wildcats yesterday.

Kentucky defender Kate Hughes scored first on a header off a corner kick. Ohio answered back 12 minutes later when midfielder Callie Broomfield took an open shot at the goal and scored her first of the season. Forward Jasmine Merith got the assist.

The score remained tied going into halftime, but Kentucky (4-0-1) came out with guns blazing and scored two goals in the first five minutes of the second half.

Wildcat midfielder Nicola Holdsworth scored off a deflection from Ohio goalkeeper Dominique Wright in the 49th minute to regain the lead for Kentucky. Just 44 seconds later, forward Laura Novikoff shot from 30 yards out and past Wright. Novikoff has a team-leading four goals this season.

Ohio midfielder Erika Schmitt cut into Kentucky's lead in the 78th minute, also scoring from 30 yards out. Schmitt was assisted by Broomfield and Amy Lower on her first goal of the season.

Kentucky forward Callie Lanphier sealed the deal in the 88th minute with her third goal of

the season.

Ohio (0-3-1) will stay on the road this week when the team travels to Columbus to take on Ohio State Thursday.
