Emma Chamberlain’s West Elm is proof, celebrity collections aren’t so random

If you love cozy, modern, and aesthetic, the new furniture collection, Emma Chamberlain’s with West Elm, might be exactly what you’re looking for.

Emma Chamberlain is an influencer, internet personality, podcaster and entrepreneur. She rose to fame as a YouTube vlogger in 2017, known for making people laugh, her unique editing skills and her addiction to coffee.

She now owns her own coffee business, Chamberlain Coffee; all products are available online, and one cafe location in LA. Through her brand and online presence, Chamberlain counts among the influencers shaping trends in lifestyle, fashion and now home decor.

Now let's talk about West Elm. If you don't already know them, they are known for their modern, very mid-century look and inspiration for their furniture and home decor, while also being sustainable. They were founded in 2002 in Brooklyn, New York. Now, they have more than 100 locations across the United States, with two Ohio locations: one in Columbus and one in Jeffersonville.

West Elm prides itself on having many things that “solve small space solutions”: things that are functional for smaller apartments and spaces that might help with storage.

Providing many different things, from bedding, rugs, collections and lighting, they come in a range of styles and colors.

Depending on what you get from West Elm, their prices range from $20 to over $6,000. On a smaller scale, decor and small items are $20-$100 and dressers and consoles are $700-$1,500. This wide price range allows shoppers either to purchase a few statement pieces or fully furnish a space, depending on their budget.

“Everything she puts out nowadays is either an ad or an editorial photoshoot,” Reddit user @thegoatss commented

“Totally agree. Honestly, I miss her travel videos and her adventuring. Would love to see a vlog of her going to a new country or adventuring in nature or something, I don’t know,” @slow-coffee8 replied.

Many people in the thread shared similar opinions, expressing that they miss her older content, especially when she used to film more casual videos like driving around, getting coffee and just living her everyday life.

These comments highlight the disconnect some viewers feel from Chamberlain’s current direction. Hinting at a growing nostalgia for the more realistic and unified style she originally became known for.

The Emma Chamberlain x West Elm furniture collection might feel “random,” but there are actually a few real reasons why so many celebrities drop collections like this.

Thinking big picture, it is about branding and expansion. Celebrities aren't just known for one thing; they build lifestyles around their image. Emma started with YouTube, then moved to coffee and things like podcasts and more. Now she's on to home decor.

Celebs also aren't known for just one thing anymore, like music or acting. It's all about the lifestyle and how you brand that lifestyle.

When stepping back, this all connects to her overall cozy aesthetic.

It's also a business move. Partnering with these big, established companies is a risk many celebs take, and it can pay off handsomely.

Also, with the consumer culture right now, Generation Z is a highly influential generation. Gen Z’s interaction in the influencer-branding-social media sphere is changing the retail industry entirely.

If someone likes the celebrity, they are more than likely to buy the product associated with them. Influence and credibility are so important; they help build trust with the audience.

Celebrities aren’t just pushing collaborations to sell products, but also to extend their brand and shape audiences' experience of their lifestyle.
