Your Turn: An article is satiric; an article is racist; so then satire is racist

There has been a lot of outrage concerning Chris Yonker over his controversial column. I was thinking I could provide some new insight about this problem, and hopefully about all future media, putting this hate language and stereotyping to rest.

First, all satire should be outlawed in the name of being culturally and ethnically sensitive. This will prevent future outcries of racism from the ever-conscious student body of Ohio University. According to student protestors, Chris Yonker's joke article shows very clear signs of racism. As a joke column, it is easily defined as satire. If his article is defined as satire and is inherently racist, logically satire must be inherently racist. Therefore to stop racism, we have to outlaw satire altogether. If we can pass a law like this, it will teach other conspiring journalists not to poke fun at American culture and politics.

Second, the outrage over this article shows we need to get rid of disgustingly racist humor. All of the racially prejudiced media bigots who claim to be comics using satire, like Jon Stewart, Carlos Mencia, Stephen Colbert, Dave Chappelle, Lisa Lampanelli, Chris Rock (just to name a few), are plaguing our innocent little saint of a nation with this horrible stereotyping, hidden in God-awful satire. These people should all be removed from the media and their First Amendment rights revoked. We can't have our comedians exposing America to this racist hate language and stereotyping.

Chris Yonker, I condemn you for using this witchcraft of satire, and I call for you to be removed from ever writing in a college newspaper again. Let's set an example for future generations who dare to be the jester in our ever-serious and culturally liberated political world.

Josh Smith is a sophomore political science pre-law major.
