Post Letter: Randy Mace is a better choice for seat

We are writing in support of the candidacy of Randy Mace for county commissioner. We have known Randy since our return to Athens County in 1978. During that time we’ve seen him head the Athens County Emergency Management Agency, become the driving force for establishing 9-1-1 in Athens County, and be selected as one of a few top communication specialists in the nation to provide vital security communications for the Salt Lake City Olympics in 2002.

Randy’s campaign theme is “accountability, responsibility and common sense.”

He believes in making sure that public servants are accountable to the people who elect them. He would like to have the meetings of the county commissioners held at a time and place that would make it easier for the average Athens County citizen to attend. He is a hard worker and will make decisions on the basis of what is best for all of Athens County, not just one segment of the population. His votes as a commissioner will be cast in a manner that common sense Republicans, Democrats and independents can all appreciate.

There is one aspect of Randy’s platform that we think is especially noteworthy and gives one a real insight into what makes this Athens County native tick: “I am for restoring the balance between private and public aid to the less fortunate.

I am committed to donating 10 percent of my salary to local charities as a challenge to other well-paid Athens Countians to do the same. (Imagine how much the food bank or Good Works or Red Cross, etc., could do if everyone in the county who earns $50K or more would donate a similar percentage?)”

We truly believe that this is the kind of man — along with incumbents Larry Payne and Lenny Eliason — we need to have in this office.
