After working in the clerk of courts office for more than 30 years, Christie Mitchell decided to move on from the clerk of courts position and focus on new things.
Near the end of her third term, Mitchell said she realized it was time to retire because she had already accomplished everything she had wanted to. She was originally scheduled to leave office in January after the general election, but decided to retire early.
Right now I am working out in my flower beds
and actually I'm going to continue being active on the United Appeal Board and I really am just going to take it easy and enjoy my no-stress life for a while Mitchell said. I am just loving it.
Her husband, Sam Mitchell, said it's been wonderful having her around.
It's just nice to see her relaxed and enjoying life like she should
he said.
Among her accomplishments from the past 12 years as clerk of courts, Mitchell has computerized all the office records, installed imaging of the documents and extended hours of service in the title office.
Mitchell also said she created the one stop shop for the title office, making the location near the deputy registers office and the exam station.
Mitchell served on many boards and is a current board member of the United Appeal Board of Athens County.
I don't want to commit myself to too many things right now
not knowing how much time I have on my hands
Mitchell said.
One venture that has kept Mitchell busy since she left office on March 26 is setting up a fundraiser for the Athens County Democrat Party, selling items on eBay.
We're selling some items that people donate and then we'll sell those
and the money will go towards the party
she said. So I've been working on getting on that set up
but for the most part just enjoying
enjoying
enjoying.
Ann Trout, who currently works in the clerk's office, has taken over the position until the November general election. She said things have been going great
