District senator accepts duel of words

Sen. Joy Padgett, R-Coshocton, accepted Terry Anderson's challenge to a series of debates in their race for Ohio Senate's 20th district.

Anderson, the Democratic candidate, proposed debates in each of the nine counties in the district beginning in June. They would be in a town-hall format, so residents could have the opportunity to choose the questions that are asked to both candidates.

What Terry envisions is making due without a moderator

said Mariel Betancourt, Anderson's spokesperson. They'll have a chance to talk about the problems they feel are most important.

Anderson issued the challenge Friday in a letter to Padgett. No specific dates or locations have been decided.

Some of the concerns Anderson has about the district are job losses and problems with education and health care, Betancourt said.

Padgett's spokesperson said she is eager to debate the issues with Anderson.

Senator Padgett is looking forward to the debate said Jeff Lehner, Padgett's campaign manager. Whenever anyone asks [Anderson] for specifics he doesn't have any.

For Padgett, who accepted Anderson's challenge Monday, employment is also a focus, he said.

Economic development is the number one issue in this campaign

Lehner said.

According to the Ohio Senate office, the salary for the position is $54,942.01.
