Ohio golf heads to Arizona

The Ohio women's golf team kicks off its spring season with a trip to Rio Verde Country Club in Rio Verde, Ariz., today.

This is the program's first time in the East/West Rio Verde Collegiate. Fellow Mid-American Conference teams Western Michigan and Eastern Michigan play host to the tournament. It will be a midseason MAC warm up because six of the nine conference teams will be participating. In addition to the Broncos and Eagles, Ohio, Marshall, Toledo and defending MAC champion Kent State will make the trip.

Ohio coach Bob Cooley said many of the other teams have played the course prior to this weekend.

Five or six of the MAC teams out there are on spring break

and that's a big advantage for them Cooley said.

The format of the tournament is 36 holes on the 6,069-yard par 72 White Wing course. Seniors Cari Mozingo and Ashley McCall, junior Sara Ann Palmer, sophomores Julie Tomlinson and Ana Brown and freshman Meredith Waterston will play for Ohio based on their fall scoring averages.

The tournament will be a shotgun start at 4 p.m. today and Saturday.
