Baseball gets the OK to turn on lights

Newly identified funding for lights at the Ohio Softball Field has opened the door for night games at Bob Wren Stadium this season, said Thomas Boeh, Ohio director of athletics, Tuesday.

Ohio's baseball stadium has had lights since last summer when they were installed to accommodate the Southern Ohio Copperheads of the Great Lakes Summer League. Due to Title IX restrictions, however, the Bobcats could not use the lights until an equitable plan was in place for them at the softball stadium.

The institution has made the commitment now to say we're going to provide an internal financial plan in line to build those lights in the near future

more than likely hopefully in conjunction with the rest of the softball stadium component Boeh said. Therefore

because that's on the way

identified

and in a plan

we can go ahead and allow our intercollegiate teams to use the lights there.

While an updated schedule will be announced later this week, between six and eight games will be played under the lights.

Ohio baseball coach Joe Carbone said that the night games are beneficial for both the fans and the players.

Academically

for the student-athlete

it's going to be a lot better for them; they don't have to be rushing all day long into their classes

grabbing a sandwich

and running out to the ballpark
