Some students at Ohio University are demanding a stronger voice in the presidential search, but their complaints will remain unheard this weekend when administrators meet with a representative from a national search firm.
Several OU administrators have one-on-one meetings planned today with Shelly Weiss Storbeck, managing director and vice president of A.T. Kearney Education Practice. A.T. Kearney is aiding the presidential search committee. Current President Robert Glidden will retire at the end of June.
Officials at A.T. Kearney requested a meeting with OU administrators who report directly to the president, said Alan Geiger, secretary to the Board of Trustees. Storbeck would like to better understand the top positions and their effects on the president, he said. After the meetings, members of the 20-person search committee who reside in Athens will discuss the search's progress.
But one important university constituent - the students - will remain largely under-represented at today's meetings. Although the search committee has two students - Graduate Student Senate President Michael Willits and student trustee Tara Stuckey - members of Student Senate have expressed discontent with the amount of student representation.
Senators adopted a resolution in November stating their displeasure with the number of students on the search committee. Geiger said the committee members are finalized.
Senate President Jamie Walter said she requested to meet with Storbeck and other students while she is in Athens today.
