Three games, three shutouts.
This takes on a double meaning for the Ohio women's soccer team today as it takes on Mid-American Conference foe Akron. Ohio held its last three opponents scoreless this season, but the equation also sums up the entire history of Ohio's games against Akron, a program in just its fourth year of existence.
In three years, the Bobcats are 3-0-0 against Akron, have not allowed Akron to score once -ever -and don't plan on letting that change today.
That's our goal for the season
to have shutouts every game and we've proved that in the past weekends. It's what we want to keep continuing to do midfielder Gina Siedentopf said.
The Zips (2-4-0 overall, 0-2-2 MAC) and the winless UNC-Charlotte 49ers (0-7-0) appear to make for a less-competitive weekend for the Bobcats, especially in light of next week's arguably more imposing trip to Miami and Ball State. Nonetheless, Siedentopf said Ohio will not let up.
No off weekends
she said. If we don't have a MAC game
it's more of just working on things we still need to work on
and getting the wins so we have the momentum to keep going into MAC play
playing hard.
Coach Stacy Strauss was fearful of underestimating the Zips, who have had 12 days' rest since their last game.
Akron's had a weekend off
so they've had some time to adjust
she said. They're a hard-working team. They haven't had the success
but we're still a losing team ourselves. We need to make sure we stay focused.
The past week has been good to the Bobcats (2-4-2, 2-0-2 MAC). The only MAC team to win twice last weekend, Ohio also learned Monday that goalkeeper Michelle Meglaughlin was named MAC Player of the Week after last weekend's shutouts.
Meglaughlin hesitated, however, to accept praise for her award.
I'm very
very surprised
