Ohio soccer player Tiffany Horvath was named the Mid-American Conference
Freshman-of-the-Year last Thursday, becoming the first Ohio player to win the honor
since Mindy Boggs in 1997. The Strongsville native netted eight goals and dished out
five assists in her rookie campaign, in addition to scoring three game-winners on the year.
Even though their brilliant winning streak ended at six games in the MAC
tournament semifinals, the Bobcats have continued to bring home the hardware.
Midfielder Kendra Hornschemeier was named to the All-MAC first team. She led
the team with eight assists for the season and also had three goals. Hornschemeier is the
school's all-time leader in assists.
Forward Christel Schiering earned All-MAC second team honors for the third
straight season. She capped her brilliant Bobcat career with 11 goals and four assists for
the season. Schiering's 46 goals sit atop the record books as the best in school history.
Freshman Horvath was named to the All-MAC second team and the All-MAC
freshman team. Joining Horvath on the All-MAC freshman team was Larissa Najjar, who
played in 19 of 20 games on the season and was crucial in the Bobcats six shutouts.
Field Hockey earns postseason honors
Three players for Ohio's field hockey team were named to the All-Tournament
team after leading the team to the MAC tournament finals. Amanda Freeman was named
to the team for the second time, while Liz Holtzman and Kara Webster were first-time
honorees.
Freeman and Holtzman also earned All-MAC honors for the season, as they were
both named to the All-MAC first team. This is FreemanÕs second appearance on the All-
MAC team. She was named to the second team last season.
Lindsay Rothenberger garnered All-MAC second team honors. She was the team
leader in assists with eight.
Shannon Kelly named MAC Swimmer of the Week
Ohio swimmer Shannon Kelly earned MAC Swimmer of the Week honors for the
second straight week, after winning six of seven events this past weekend against Akron
and Buffalo. She went undefeated on Friday, winning the 200-yard medley relay, the 100
backstroke, the 100 freestyle and the 200 individual medley. Saturday she went on to win
the 400 medley relay, the 100 freestyle and placed second in the 200 IM.
