Golfers hanging on to first round lead against Marshall

After a rain-shortened first round, the Ohio women's golf team holds a narrow lead in the inaugural Lady Herd Classic hosted by Marshall.

The Bobcats lead the seven-team field with a team score of 311, just ahead of the second-place Herd, who shot 313.

Sara Ann Palmer leads the Bobcats with an 18-hole score of 74 (40-34), putting her in second place. Following close behind, in third place, is teammate Shanna Siefke (35-40-75).

Julie Tomlinson (39-39-78) and Meredith Waterston (39-40-79) are also in the top 10 for Ohio. However, Waterston is playing the tournament as an individual, so her score does not count toward the team score.

Methodist's Heather Martin is the overall leader at 38-35-73.

The players were supposed to play a second 18-hole round Monday, but heavy rains forced that round to be canceled. Only one round will be played today, making the Classic a 36-hole tournament.

It was very cold this morning

then it started raining assistant coach Jeff Hetler said, so I was very pleased with three scores in the 70s.
