Freshman Carime Reinhart led the Ohio women's cross country team with a fourth-place finish at the Notre Dame Invitational Friday. The Bobcats finished 15th in the gold division.
Reinhart finished the 5,000-meter (3.1 miles) race in 18:14, and said she was very surprised at how well she ran.
It was a really important race
she said. I wanted to have a good finish.
Coach Clay Calkins said it was incredible for a freshman to place that high in such a big race. The race's other top-five finishers were seniors.
She was one of our top recruits and she proved it he said. Even though we were in the slower division we were still racing against some good competition
and she did a fine job.
Calkins said the entire team ran well. There were a lot of personal best times
he said. You can't ask for anything more.
Three other Ohio runners finished in the top 100: Andrea Maas (69th), Lauren Birnie (85th) and Ali Green (87th).
Alicia Myers (102nd), Kendra Churchill (118th) and Katelyn Reepmeyer (125th) also competed.
Churchill said she did not have her best race of the season.
I felt tired and worn out during the race
but we are supposed to feel like that at this time of the season
she said.
Liz Woodworth helped Wisconsin-Oskosh win the gold division team title as she won the women's race in 17:10, almost a minute ahead of the field. Stanford won the blue division team title with 34 points.
Mid-American Conference teams at the meet included Akron and Western Michigan, who finished 19th and 22nd in the higher-level blue division.
Calkins said this meet was a good indication of where Ohio stands against the other teams that will be running next Friday at the All-Ohio Championships.
