Dear Nick Southall:
Hey, it’s me again, Emily Harper.
I know you’re probably sick of me at this point. I brought about 30 students with me to the second Student Senate meeting back in September so we could speak out against your offensive, slut-shaming tweets and rape culture at OU in general.
I wanted you to resign right then and there, but I know everyone deserves a second chance, so I gave it to you.
It’s Week 11 and I still want you to resign. I’m not the only one either!
Graduate Student Senate issued a vote of no confidence in your ability to lead a body. GSS President, Joel Newby, spoke out two weeks ago about how he personally didn’t think you deserved to be in your leadership position.
You promised back in September to take the necessary steps to educate yourself on rape culture and to be more involved in helping to eradicate it from this campus. Yet you failed to ever contact Allie Erwin or Claire Chadwick, the founders of a group (F--kRapeCulture) devoted to doing just that.
It’s not as if this organization has flown under the radar; we’ve had two rallies and multiple meetings that you have been noticeably absent from.
Allie Erwin is an HTC senator who attends Student Senate meetings regularly. There is no excuse for you to not be involved in this movement.
Oh wait, there is an excuse: complete and utter incompetence in addition to not really caring about these issues.
Seriously, just resign already.
With all due disrespect,
Emily Harper
