Club prompts students to 'come on down' to OU's The Price is Right

The Game Show Appreciation Society gives students and their moms a chance to win prizes and play a classic game show Saturday.

The society is hosting its fifth annual The Price is Right at 6:30 in Baker Center Ballroom.

We are giving away a lot of cool prizes this year

including a donut maker a 19-inch plasma TV a blue ray player

a bike and a book called 400 ways that Chuck Norris is Awesome

said Alex Behe, a senior studying management information systems and computer technician for the club.

Contestants will be selected during an interview process after tickets are purchased.

You go through an interview process

very much like the actual show. We did try doing a lottery drawing a couple times but decided that we didn't get the right contestant energy

Behe said.

Excitement is very important to a successful show, Behe said.

We want people who are very enthusiastic about being on the show. We want people to run up and basically tackle our host

he said.

The Game Show Appreciation Society was founded six years ago, with three members. Dan Balmert, president, said the club now includes about 19 people.

It is a really low pressure club. You just show up and have fun most of the year except for the couple of weeks around The Price is Right time. So it was just a nice way to unwind each week

he said.

Some proceeds from the event will be donated to Relay For Life, and event fundraising chair Meghan Ventura said besides the good cause it is just away for students to experience The Price is Right without having to drive to California.

We play the same games

we even have the same music cues

pretty much the same everything
