Graduate Student Senate: Candidates preparing for upcoming election

Graduate Student Senate discussed Tuesday some of the logistics for its upcoming election season during its meeting.

Candidates for next year’s GSS are getting organized and ready to campaign. On March 16, candidates will have a debate to share their plans and goals for the next year.

Graduate students will have from March 17-24 to vote for next year’s executive officers, Nikol Lopez, representative of human and consumer sciences, said.

Suji Baskar, representative for the Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine, also drew attention to a peer support group taking place March 9 to acknowledge being in the coronavirus pandemic for a year.

Graduate students will receive the link to that meeting Wednesday.

“This isn’t a group therapy session,” Baskar said. “This is more of peer support, talking to your other graduate students about what you’re concerned about or just really to vent or to hear people’s voices and concerns and share recipes, jokes, shows, things like that. It’s a really free-flowing meeting next week.”

In other business, a new member was also appointed to GSS.

Neda Norooziasl was appointed as a senator for the Russ College of Engineering and Technology during the meeting.
