The Ohio field hockey team fell to interstate rival Ohio State in its last non-conference match of the season Tuesday at Peggy Pruitt Field.
The Bobcats (3-10 overall, 1-2 Mid-American Conference) allowed a goal fewer than three minutes into play and another just before the half, despite controlling much of the play.
Regardless, Ohio continued to pressure offensively and, with first-half time already expired, capitalized on its third straight corner to narrow the Ohio State (6-5, 0-2 Big Ten) lead to one. Midfielder Erica Bundalo received the scoring shot from midfielder Kristen Hann.
Throughout the second half, the Bobcats continued their offensive prowess, putting 10 shots toward the Buckeyes' net without success. Neither team could score in the second half and Ohio ran out of opportunities and time to knot the score.
With the loss, the Bobcats fall to 0-5 at home this year. More vexing, though, is Ohio's defense -the Bobcats have allowed 36 goals and only have produced 21.
Our defense is what is lacking
coach Shelly Morris said. Not necessarily our defenders but our team defense. We're working so hard to get the ball into our offensive end and with one hit it is back in their offensive end. We're not defending the spaces.
