Given the developments regarding the Board of Trustee’s OK to President Roderick McDavis’ raise, the raises of the upper administration and Thursday’s news that a donor wants to provide McDavis with yet another residence while also signing off on 3.7 percent tuition hike, I have a suggestion for students:
DEMAND THAT BUDGET PLANNING COUNCIL MEETINGS BE OPEN TO THE PUBLIC.
When we read that Provost Pam Benoit’s financial threats to Student Senate were not to be taken “literally,” according to Chad Mitchell in Betty Laudermilt’s Post story Thursday, it seems we should have access to the meetings that validate these scare tactics or render them, um, not literal.
For such a critical committee at a state university to hide behind closed doors is, at the very least, shady and, at most, criminal.
