Good morning,
In the wake of President Trump’s executive order restricting travel for citizens from seven predominantly Muslim countries, World Hijab Day will be celebrated today on Ohio University’s campus.
The Islamic Center of Athens will be celebrating World Hijab Day from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on the fourth floor of Baker Center today. Hijabs — headscarves traditionally worn by Muslim women — will be available on the fourth floor of Baker and students and faculty members are invited to try wearing a hijab for the whole day.
There will be a panel also discussing the history of the hijab and potential risks faced by women who choose to wear it beginning at 1 p.m. in the Women’s Center, Baker 403.
“People who would be wearing the hijab tomorrow as part of this movement are not donning it as some kind of fashion accessory … (but) as a sign of solidarity,” M. Geneva Murray, the director of the Women’s Center, said.
