CLEVELAND - A grand jury investigating whether an imprisoned former stock broker used campaign contributions to bribe someone close to a state official is expected to hand down indictments this week, The Plain Dealer reported.
The Cuyahoga County grand jury has been investigating whether ex-broker Frank Gruttadauria tried to bribe someone close to Treasurer Joe Deters in exchange for state business, the newspaper reported, citing unidentified sources.
Indictments are expected as early as this week but are not likely to identify whom Gruttadauria attempted to influence, according to multiple sources with knowledge of the case.
No indictments had been issued as of yesterday morning.
Gruttadauria, 46, is serving a seven-year sentence at a federal prison in Morgantown, W.Va., for bilking investors out of $125 million. He pleaded guilty in August 2002 to securities, wire and bank frauds, as well as identity theft. He admitted bilking clients by making unauthorized transfers as he falsified accounts.
