TV Review: Wanda's pain is explained, another Easter egg is revealed on 'WandaVision'

Pain. Wanda Maximoff’s life has been plagued by loss. First her parents, then her twin brother and finally the love of her life. The one constant is pain, but even the Scarlet Witch has a breaking point. The emotional, yet therapeutic, journey leading the episode proves that Wanda has only grown from her loss and that Hayward has been spinning his own web of lies.

Considered to be a mythical being, the Scarlet Witch was never referenced by name in the MCU until Agatha addresses Wanda with the title. With the ability to create matter, it’s evident the existence of the Scarlet Witch petrifies Agatha.

We know that some people are born with abilities; Agatha’s backstory proved that not everyone requires a spontaneous event. From the moment that Tony Stark’s missile destroyed her childhood home, Wanda’s first inclination was magic, anything to keep the shell from exploding. The relevance of the sitcom format over the last seven episodes became evident as it’s revealed her Sokovian family learned English from sitcoms like The Dick Van Dyke Show

We knew that Wanda and her late brother, Pietro, had come from a series of experiments with the Mind Stone, one of the six infinity stones. Getting an up close and personal encounter with the stone revealed that Wanda had a vision of the future, her future as the Scarlet Witch. In earlier episodes, Hayward, an agent from S.W.O.R.D., released information stating that she had broken into the facility housing Vision’s body. While Wanda was emotionally broken at that time, she did no such thing. Audience’s hearts broke alongside Wanda’s when she saw his body torn apart.

In Avengers: Infinity War, to distinguish between the Mind Stone and Vision, Wanda stated “I just feel you.” This would come to be a heart-wrenching Easter egg later when Wanda is tasked with destroying the Mind Stone and Vision with it. With his dying breath, Vision says “I just feel you.” Wanda’s visit to the S.W.O.R.D. facility brought back all the emotions when she tearfully whispered, “I can’t feel you,” signaling the Vision she had known to love with her entire person is gone.

Wanda and Vision had bonded over awkward silences and their connection to the Mind Stone, but eventually it grew into something genuine, Vision had bought a plot for a house in the small town of Westview, New Jersey.

“To grow old in. -V” was all that was written on the plot information. Those four words sent Wanda over the edge and the birth of the Hex was revealed, her powers exploding enough to create this reality and an entirely new Vision. All she wanted was to live a normal life, one with the single person on the planet who knew what she truly wanted from life.

The ninth episode is set to air Friday on Disney+ and fans are anxiously awaiting the season finale’s inevitable twists and turns and some more Jimmy Woo content too.
