Bush's views on marriage wrong

Editor,

Tuesday night after the State of the Union Address, I needed to take a walk. In the cold darkness of South Green, I pondered the event I had just witnessed. My mind wandered from images of President Bush entering, the stirs of applause, the murmurs of disapproval and then, the dead silence. The silence accompanied by the leader of our nation promising his support for a new amendment to our Constitution; the 28th Amendment - the ban of homosexual unions. During this walk, the only calm I felt was the brief instance of walking in and out of a wandering waft of ganja. So, where was I walking? I was going to Nelson Market to buy milk, because when I think of horrific mistakes made by the Bush family, I suddenly want to know how much a gallon of milk costs.

So, only a day after we celebrated the life of Martin Luther King Jr., the man who stands for the caring, compassion and tolerance that we should all possess, Bush goes and contradicts the great man's teachings in his State of the Union by announcing that if state judges continue to defy the Sanctity of Marriage Act he will call for the amendment to put a complete end to civil unions. About a week before this, Vice President Dick Cheney stated he would support such an action, even though his own daughter is a lesbian.

Ladies and gentlemen, to say I'm angry would be an understatement. To say I'm vexed would be lacking. To state how I actually feel would cause parents to write angry letters to The Post. So, what I will say is thanks to the people who still plan on voting for Bush. Thanks for aiding in the removal of rights for people that we take for granted. Thanks for insulting everything this nation was founded upon. But most of all, thank you very much for supporting a man who's willing to put his own beliefs ahead of those of his own people.

When Congress decides to try to pass this amendment, I hope to see the rest of my fellow students and citizens join me in the mass protest in Washington.
