Young cornerback reflects on season so far

Editor's Note: In the midst of his second season as a Bobcat, cornerback T.J. Wright has established himself as one of the Mid-American Conference's best young defensive backs. The redshirt sophomore, who has intercepted six passes during his college career, will share his thoughts with Post readers throughout the rest of the season and offer an inside look at what it's like to be a Bobcat.

These last two weeks, as anyone could imagine, have been tough for us. We have lost two straight conference games against teams we feel we could have beaten.

Some teams, given that scenario, would fold and just finish the season. We have taken the losses to heart, and we are using them as our motivation to get things corrected against Bowling Green. The team is adapting a renewed one-game-at-a-time focus.

We are still on pace to have one of the biggest turn-arounds in the nation. This year's team is very talented and resilient. All week, players have been intense and ready to impress alumni and former teammates. We are expecting a big crowd and have one request: cheer loud and long for old Ohio.

Personally, I am excited about this week's game, because it gives me another chance to face one of the conference's best receivers, Charles Sharon.

It also gives me the chance to see one of the league's premier cornerbacks, Keon Newson. Where he is in terms of respect from the league, players and coaches is where I want to be as a defensive back. I get to see him in person and compare myself to him. I hope to outplay him and be a major contributor to our team's road to victory Saturday.

I would like to end this inside look with shout-outs and questions.

Shout-outs to the DB-Unit, Rob Stover (Big Walnut's only gangsta), Dion Champagne Byrum (a.k.a. Golden Graham), Chip Cox, Parham, Soft Hands Dre Bradford, 'Shad, Shave, Tony Ward (because he's from Beaumont, Texas) and Coach Peyton because he's from Utah.

Another Penny in the Bank

-T. J. Wright is a sophomore journalism major who is currently tied for 10th in the nation with three interceptions and is one of 32 players in the NCAA to return an interception for a touchdown.
