For the first time in nearly three weeks, the Ohio women's basketball team will need to pack some snacks for the road.
The Bobcats (10-13 overall, 4-8 Mid-American Conference) travel to Kalamazoo, Mich., this weekend to play Western Michigan, their first road game since a Feb. 3 victory against Central Michigan.
Coming off a close loss against Miami and a 2-2 homestand, Ohio expects to see a Broncos' zone for much of Saturday's game, coach Lynn Bria said.
We've got to be able to attack the zone
to beat the zone Bria said. It's really hard for me to say that we can go in there with a lot of confidence in regards to the offensive end because we've just been so inconsistent.
Western Michigan (14-10, 9-4 MAC) has lost two straight conference games to Miami and Toledo but remains second in the West Division, one game back of Eastern Michigan.
The Broncos are led by guard Casey Rost (19.8 points per game) and forward Lori Crisman (7.2 rebounds per game). Rost, who leads the conference in scoring, is one of three players who average double figures for Western Michigan.
Western Michigan, 6-2 at home this season, provides an imposing environment for opponents, forward Megan Oriold said.
I think Western is the toughest gym to go to
because of the atmosphere there
Oriold said. It's a smaller gym. There are a lot of distractions
and we just need to be focused.
The Bobcats have proved thus far that they can avoid distractions away from home, posting a better record away from The Convo at 6-6 than in it, 4-7.
It's a tough road trip
but sometimes we play better on the road
forward Lindsay Wight said.
Ohio, which beat the Broncos, 75-64, in Athens last season, holds a 20-19 all-time advantage in the series.
The Bobcats tip-off at 2 p.m. Saturday in the Broncos' University Arena.
