A candidate for the Ohio Supreme Court spoke last night at the American Legion for the Athens County Republican Party's annual fall dinner.
Judge Judith Ann Lanzinger of Toledo is seeking the retiring Court Justice Francis Sweeney's seat and is currently serving in the Sixth District Court of Appeals.
Lanzinger is running against Nancy Fuerst, who serves as a judge in the Cuyahoga County Common Pleas Court.
This is a six-year term
and I believe I have a lot to offer the Supreme Court Lanzinger said. I believe in judicial restraint in that judges don't legislate from the bench
but their job is to interpret the law.
She has served in the Toledo Municipal Court, the Lucas County Common Pleas Court and the Sixth District Court of Appeals.
I think she's going to bring a proven record to the Supreme Court
said Adam Wilson, 21, an OU junior and member of the College Republicans.
Lanzinger emphasized the importance of supporting President Bush and other Republican candidates.
Lanzinger said she spoke with President Bush after her son, who is in the U.S. Army, returned from an eight-month tour of duty in Iraq.
I told him how glad my son was that he was his commander-in-chief
Lanzinger said.
Bush paused and asked how he was doing -I was amazed
Lanzinger said.
Lanzinger comes highly recommended by the Ohio Bar Association, while her opponent, Fuerst, received an adequate rating.
We really are pulling for her
and hopefully we can do more for her over the next month
said Clayton Henson, 22, an OU senior and president of College Republicans. She is a great candidate
and I believe she will win. It's a very important position
and we need her in there.
