Regarding the layoff of 20 residential dining staff members:
Really, Ohio University?! From The Post’s Jan. 9 article, the budget for the renovation of Nelson to make it pretty and mall-esque and such with Mediterranean food and BBQ is costing OU $20.6 million. All of that $20.6 million is being paid for by the university’s Culinary Services budget.
So, ask yourself two questions:
1. How much do they make off student dorm and dining charges?
2. Could they have not budgeted a little bit of that money to keep just 20 employees from being laid off? Especially when Facilities Management is perpetually understaffed. They could do other things and not be laid off.
This makes me sick to my stomach. If it doesn’t bother YOU, shame on you. More than 30 percent of Athens County residents live below the poverty line. Let’s just add to it.
I graduated from OU with a fine education and the ability to think critically and logically. When I read stories like this, I have to wish my education away ... it just doesn’t pay to think logically or compassionately around here. It’s too depressing.
