The Ohio University Greek community will kick off its fall recruitment week Sunday as fraternity and sorority houses across campus have open houses to welcome potential future members.
OU's Interfraternity Council will have formal rush, a system similar to that used by sororities, with members of each fraternity serving as Rho Gammas and disaffiliating before and during the recruitment period. Disaffiliation allows them to remain unbiased as they aid potential members to find the fraternity that best suits them. This system is a change from the one used in recent years, as rushers will see all of the houses on campus, and fraternities are required to register each potential rusher.
Last year
the numbers were down a little bit and some of the fraternities weren't happy with how it went said Quentin Arndts, vice president of public relations. Arndts helped reform the rush system for this fall.
Formal rush for fraternities will take place Sunday and Monday evenings as Rho Gammas escort recruits to all chapter houses. Informal rush will be the following two nights, and recruits will be allowed to attend open houses at the fraternities that interest them. Bids will be awarded Thursday night.
OU's Women's Pan-Hellenic Association will be having tours of all nine chapter houses on campus beginning at 1 p.m. Sunday. Each tour will last thirty minutes, and the tours will continue until 9 p.m. The events begin again Wednesday evening and will continue through the weekend as current sorority members perform skits and hope to further familiarize themselves with potential members.
Rush week for sororities will conclude on Sunday, Oct. 3 in Baker Center Ballroom when the new recruits will receive their bids.
