Women's Basketball: Seniors meet goal of defeating Toledo before graduation

After last night's game, senior Simone Redd was able to check one thing off her list of things to do before leaving Ohio.

Redd and her teammates had never beaten Toledo. In fact, no Ohio team had since Feb. 23, 2000, but the Bobcats put an end to that and took down the Rockets 70-58. -

Redd said. Going out of our senior year G? to have a win against every MAC team ' it feels great.

Coach Sylvia Crawley said that the team was aware of the obstacle Toledo usually poses to Ohio.

That was our goal for today for (the seniors) at the end of their season to say they've beaten every team in the MAC at least once Crawley said. This is a team that was 8-0 against us

so it doesn't matter what their record was. They came in here thinking they could beat Ohio.-

Crawley said.

Redd's 12 points tied her high for the conference season. She was 5-of-6 from the field.

Last game

the bench really didn't produce for the team like we needed to

Redd said. I took it upon myself to be more aggressive when in the game and give my teammates more scoring opportunities.

Lauren Kohn led the scoring for Ohio (14-9, 7-3 MAC) with 24 points, her highest of the conference season. Redd and Kohn were the only two Bobcats in double digits.

Toledo (10-12, 3-7 MAC) outshot Ohio from the field (43 to Ohio's 40 percent), as the Bobcats ' the nation's second-best 3-point shooting team ' shot just 35 percent from beyond the arc.

Even though we weren't shooting particularly well

I thought we stepped it up on defense

Kohn said.

Crawley said that the team was making sure to keep the ball moving to make it more difficult for Toledo to keep pace.

The whole game I thought it was just a lot of movement

Crawley said. When we're switching our screens

that makes us more aggressive. We were in attack mode on offense and aggressive on defense. So this is something we're definitely going to try again.

It's a lot of work but effective.
