Expert to address 'war on terrorism'

Ohio University's Contemporary History Institute will present a status report on the war on terrorism today with speaker Daniel Benjamin.

Benjamin, who currently is conducting studies on terrorism, was a senior official on the National Security Council during President Clinton's White House tenure. He co-authored The Age of Sacred Terror: Radical Islam's War Against America in 2002 with a colleague.

The book examines preventive measures against al-Qaida outlined during the Clinton administration and asserts that more caution could have been taken leading up to Sept. 11, said Michael Grow, director of the Contemporary History Institute.

The institute, which usually sponsors 15 speakers per year, asked Benjamin over the summer to speak on an original topic.

The lecture, entitled The War on Terror: A Status Report

will be held today at 4:10 p.m. in the seminar room of Brown House. 17
