Lee Brice returns to OU to perform in sold-out show

Though it might not be a “Parking Lot Party,” country rocker Lee Brice will bring his show to Ohio University to perform a set jam packed with his famous tunes.

Brice will be joined by Adam Craig, a country act out of Nashville, Friday in Templeton-Blackburn Alumni Memorial Auditorium for a sold-out crowd.

“We chose to bring Lee Brice back to campus this spring because of the huge success he has had this year,” said Andrew Holzaepfel, associate director of the campus involvement center, in an email. Brice was last in Athens in 2012.

Brice emerged on the scene in 2007, co-writing country legend Garth Brooks’ hit “More Than A Memory.” The song was the first of Billboard’s Hot Country Songs that debuted at No. 1.

His sophomore album

Hard 2 Love, released in 2012, is a gold-certified album that featured a string of Billboard Country No. 1 hits.

Concert-goers will be sure to hear those hits, including “A Woman Like You,” “Hard to Love” and “I Drive Your Truck,” a moving story of a father driving his son’s pickup truck after he passed away in a war. The tune was named Song of the Year at the 2013 CMA Awards and was nominated for Best Solo Country Performance at the 2014 Grammys.

Another that’s sure to be played is “I Don’t Dance,” a single released in February which was chosen as one of the top wedding songs of 2014 by popular wedding site The Knot.

“He will also play songs from his forthcoming album,” said Jaclyn Carter, publicity coordinator for Shore Fire Media, in an email. “You may hear a song called “Drinking Class” as well as a few new surprises.”

Holzaepfel said students and the community are highly excited for the show.

“(Students should expect) a great high-energy performance to a sold-out hall,” he said.
