Soccer: Ohio drops to 2-1 in MAC following 1-0 loss to Ball State

A defensive battle ended in Ohio dropping a Mid-American Conference game for the first time this season as the team lost to Ball State, 1-0.

The Cardinals (6-4, 3-0 MAC) and the Bobcats came into the game both undefeated in the MAC and tied for first with Toledo.

Ball State's Emily Rein outran Ohio's defense to score the only goal of the game, which was assisted by Katelyn Alexander, who was later carried off the field for an injury.

Ohio (2-6-2, 2-1 MAC) lost despite outshooting Ball State 10-4. The Bobcats also took the corner kicks category, 9-0.

Alyssa Warren led the Bobcats with two shots on goal with two. The Ohio defense worked to keep the ball out of the box, as goalkeeper Jess MacLean totaled just one save, while Cardinals goalkeeper Rachael Murphy had two.

Ohio will be back in action at home on Sunday at 1 p.m. when it takes on Miami.
