Ceremony speaker chosen

This year Ohio University's commencement speaker will be historian David McCullough.

McCullough is a two-time Pulitzer Prize winner for his biographies about John Adams and Truman, published in 2002 and 1993 respectively. He has also written about Theodore Roosevelt, the Brooklyn Bridge, the Panama Canal and heroic figures of the past in Brave Companions, according to www.bookreporter.com.

Born in 1933, he graduated from Yale and began writing histories after working for several magazines. In addition to writing, he has worked as the host of PBS's The American Experience - for which he received an Emmy - and the narrator of movies like Seabiscuit, according to the Internet movie database's Web site, www.imdb.com.

McCullough is currently the president of the Society of American Historians.

Undergraduate commencement is scheduled for June 12, 2004.
