The Ohio women's basketball team was all smiles yesterday at practice and with good reason.
The Bobcats are coming off two straight Mid-American Conference victories, including a 20-point drubbing of Buffalo on Saturday.
Ohio coach Lynn Bria said she was pleased with the performance against Buffalo.
I think it's our best game of the year. I think (that in) all three phases we played well
Bria said. Our transition was good both offensively and defensively.
One of the more impressive defensive efforts of the year came against the Bulls, with forwards Erin Isbell and Latreece Bagley playing a huge part in limiting Buffalo's leading scorer, Jessica Kochendorfer, to just seven points.
I just thought we played her smart Bria said. We did a great job of knowing where we were on the floor; we didn't give her anything easy.
Double-double makes win twice as nice
Isbell had yet another double-double, chipping in 17 points and bringing down 11 rebounds against Buffalo.
The double-double is her fifth of the season. She also tied a career-high with 17 points .
Isbell has improved dramatically from last year to this year, and Bria has taken notice.
She's just gotten to be a more versatile player Bria said. She's worked on her game
she's spent time in the gym... and she's got more confidence because of that.
Forward provides offensive spark
Forward Lindsay Wight has come alive recently. She played sparingly early on in the season, but has started to become a key player off the bench for the Bobcats.
Lindsay's been playing great
wing Candace Bates said. She comes off the bench for us and she puts up some really great numbers.
She scored nine points against Central Michigan on the road.
Another great performance came on Saturday against Buffalo, as she poured in 14 points in 16 minutes. Wight was sizzling from behind-the-arc, shooting 4-for-7 from downtown.
Senior nears 1,000 point-mark
After pouring in 20 points against Buffalo, Candace Bates pushed her career point total to 994 points. Six more and she'll join an exclusive club of Ohio women's basketball players.
It would be a really great opportunity
Bates said.
The feat could be accomplished Wednesday night against Bowling Green. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. in The Convo.
