The Ohio volleyball team continued its dominance of Mid-American Conference opponents this weekend, defeating Toledo 30-26, 30-25, 30-27 and Bowling Green 30-19, 30-15, 30-25. The Bobcats finished a five-match road swing an impressive 5-0.
The wins give the Bobcats a nine-match winning streak, and an overall record of 15-2. Coach Geoff Carlston's squad has won nine straight conference games dating to last season, with seven coming in this season.
Toledo hung with the Bobcats throughout Saturday's match. Though the Rockets never led, they refused to go down quietly. However, the offensive firepower of Ohio outside hitter Stephanie Blackburn, who recorded a match-high 11 kills, proved too much for the home team.
Nonetheless, Carlston said his team could have played much better.
We were pretty sluggish
he said. It was neither team's best match and we didn't play very well.
With 31 assists Saturday, setter Briana Adamovsky passed the 4,000-assist career mark. With 82 total assists during the weekend, she now has 4,077 and needs 252 in the remaining 10 matches to break the school record.
Ohio came out strong on all cylinders against Bowling Green and never trailed during the first two games. The Bobcats had a .324 attack percentage compared to the Falcons' .086. In the second game, the defending conference champions outhit the Falcons with 20 kills and hit .731, committing only one error in the 30-15 drubbing.
Bowling Green made the match competitive in the third game, tying it at 24-24. However, two Falcon errors and two Bobcat kills ended the game and match.
Libero Michaele Blackburn led the defense, recording 18 and 13 digs against Toledo and Bowling Green. Outside hitter Ashley Elliott said she enjoys playing with the Blackburn sisters, who helped lead Ohio to victory.
They're always so consistent and on she said. They're always playing great games.
Michaele Blackburn gave the team credit for her performance.
The team really contributed to me having a good weekend
she said. This weekend was really trying for us
but we pulled together as a team.
The Bobcats return to The Convo this weekend for a two-match home stand against Buffalo and Kent State.
