In a high-speed game such as field hockey, Ohio goalkeeper Jennifer Cote knows as well as any player that a solid balance of both physical and mental preparation is crucial to success in the coming season.
I coached at a lot of camps in the summer
so it kept me up with playing Cote said. But honestly when you get here for preseason
it's all an attitude. Mentally
my focus coming in was to make a statement both on and off the field.
The junior sports industry major from Raynham, Mass., is a key member of a strong Bobcats squad looking to recover from a slow start and to make a run at a fifth-straight Mid-American Conference Tournament championship game.
Cote got her start far from MAC championship games, though. The summer before her freshman year of high school, she followed a friend who played the sport -and the position.
I was good friends with an older goalie at the time
Cote said. I just put on her pads one day and from then on
I stuck with it.
